The first big trip to the new facility in Detroit is done. We drove the RV out with the work van on the trailer, and that is a long drive in one day in such a big rig.
850+ miles in 14 hours! Thanksfully the recent drop in gas prices meant that the RV's 6.5mpg average resulted in a much lower cost than it would have been a few months ago :)
The RV is parked up inside the building and is insulated and plumbed in and will be acting as the worksite office and hotel over the next six months while the building work gets done.
Security system is installed and works fabulously.
The 1080P HD camera system is also in place and also works great with motion sensing alrams and remote viewing with email alerts.
We sealed up a lot of air leaks in the building to keep things a little warmer and added quite a bit of security too.
After all that was done we got into more demo and cleanup work, met with the architect and generally got to planning the space. It is going to be awesome!
Here are some highlight pictures from the trip. I cant wait to get in there full time in the spring/summer and start work.

It certainly was cold while we were there with temperatures never getting above single digit (F), some interesting ice in the building!
Unfortunately the plan to drive the Astro back with the trailer did not happen. The cold weather caused a crack in the radiator that I didnt notice until it was too late and I overheated the motor, burst the heater core and got a leak under the intake manifold. The beloved Astro work van has seen the last of its long towing days and will only live on for local use in detroit, RIP in your retirement old friend. (Probably going to replace it with a LWB high top Mercedes sprinter 4 cylinder diesel)
